A small percentage of patients can develop pancreatitis. Sometimes a pancreatic abscess or a type of cyst can develop.
There is also the risk of perforation, which may require surgery, or extreme bleeding which may require a blood transfusion.
In the case of severe infection, a period of hospitalisation may be needed while it is treated.
