Are you awake during ERCP?

ERCP is usually carried out under sedation. The patient is conscious throughout the procedure, but won’t feel any pain.

Can ERCP be done under general anaesthetic?

ERCP can be carried out under sedation or with a general anaesthetic. When the patient is sedated they will be relaxed, but remain conscious. With a general anaesthetic, the patient is unconscious.
