ERCP is a procedure that can be used to remove gallstones. The gallbladder isn’t removed; instead the opening of the bile duct is widened with a small incision or electrically heated wire. The stones are then removed or left to pass out through the intestines.
What size stone can ERCP remove?
Gallstones may range in size from a grain of sand to the size of a golf ball. Gallstones up to 12 mm can usually be removed via ERCP.
